New Year in the Spanish way
The tradition is to eat dinner very late in the evening. It is not uncommon for dinner to start at 10 pm or later. Seafood and lamb are often on the menu. The traditional New Year celebrations in most cities in Spain begin on the local main square shortly before midnight. Together they wait for the last minute of the year. When the bells ring, they eat twelve grapes, one with each bell. Both ladies and gentlemen often wear red underwear, as they are supposed to bring good luck.
