The Costa del Sol, in southern Spain, is one of the most popular holiday destinations for Europeans of all nationalities. And it’s not surprising considering everything the area has to offer: Kilometre long sandy beaches, the Mediterranean’s lukewarm waters, an enviable climate with 3000 hours of sunshine per year, a huge variety of sports and leisure activities, a relaxed environment and excellent gastronomy. Also for golf enthusiasts, Costa del Sol is a perfect holiday destination. Nowhere else in Europe you will find so many fine golf courses, so many that the coast is also often called the Costa del Golf.

From Costa Tropical to Gibraltar

Costa del Sol stretches about 186 miles along the Mediterranean coast, from Costa Tropical in the province of Granada to Gibraltar, but mainly it is the province of Malaga you mean when you mention the Sun Coast. Arriving in Malaga by air transport you will land on one of Spain’s most important airports, Aeropuerto Pablo Ruiz Picasso.

Just a few kilometres west of Malaga you will find Torremolinos, which became one of the first international tourist resorts on Costa del Sol in the 1960s. Benalmádena, Fuengirola and Mijas follows along the coast. Further on, approx. 18 miles from Fuengirola you reach Marbella, “The Golden Mile” and then San Pedro Alcántara, Estepona and Manilva.

The so-called “golden mile” is the area where legendary hotels, resorts, golf courses, harbours, restaurants and nightclubs attract luxury tourism all year round. Who hasn’t heard of Marbella Club, Puente Romano, Puerto Banús, Nueva Andalucía and Guadalmina? The name “The Golden Mile” was originally used to define the area between Marbella and Puerto Banús, along the main road N-340, where the area’s first emblematic hotels, resorts and luxury private estates were built close to the beaches.

Over time, the concept of the Golden Mile was expanded to encompass large areas closer to the mountains, which are now considered one of the most appreciated residential areas in Europe because of the privileged location between the mountains and the coast, with stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and the sunny and mild climate. This is where you can find us, Quartiers Marbella Apartments.

Continuing along the coast you reach the province of Cadiz where Sotogrande, San Roque and Gibraltar are well-known locations.

Worth mentioning is that Costa del Sol is not only the cities along the coast. Only a few kilometres from the beaches you find picturesque and authentic Spanish villages such as Ojen, Benahavis and Casares, and a little further away, the historic town of Ronda which is a must visit when in the area. Around Ronda you can find some of the greatest wines in Spain, so a wine tasting is highly recommended for wine enthusiasts.

The eastern part of the Costa del Sol is much quieter. In the region of Axarquia, wonderful unspoilt landscapes await and Nerja, where fantastic caves attracts the tourists’ attention.

Why wait? Book your holiday today and discover Costa del Sol with Quartiers.
